Blue Water Cafe, Imhoff Farm, Kommetjie

Breakfast before horse riding and a coastal drive

A mere 45 minutes out of Cape Town CBD, up and over Ou Kaapse Weg and down into the valley inbetween Fish Hoek, Noordhoek and Kommetjie and the world is transformed.

Imhoff Farm out in Kommetjie is a wonderful place for the very young, not so young and the older crowd as well. The views are fabulous and there is a wonderful grouping of activities for all, including camel rides, horse outrides on Noordhoek Beach, reptilian farm, goats, cheese makers, crafts, a wonderful deli (best pies in town!) and 3 great restaurants to choose from.

On this fine morning, we opted for Blue Water Cafe. I believe the owner, Graham, started The River Cafe at Constantia Uitsig. It turned out to be a gorgeous morning and we had a wonderful view all the way to Hout Bay from our outside table. It is a great venue for kids with the horse paddocks surrounding the outside area and a jungle gym and swing available for them to burn excess energy. A kids party was being catered for under the trees with a separate table for moms and dads – what a great idea!

Food glorious food
Starving that we were, we took to ordering from the amazing selection available on the menu. The guys went for a fabulously generous “All-Day Breakfast Tartine” @ R62.50: open toasted ciabatta bread with eggs, bacon, mushrooms and served with tomato and beef sausage. I indulged in the “Blue Water Eggs Royale” @ R62.50: typical style eggs benedict on a potato rosti, but with smoked salmon – absolutely delicious. Both dishes were worthy of the price. The “Sunrise Sundae” @ R44.50 looked gloriously fresh and delicious with layers of fruit, granola and yoghurt and topped with a berry coulis; as did the Berry Yoghurt Energiser @ R34.50.

All in all, a wonderful drive out of Cape Town, the portions sizes are fantastic and will set you in good stead for the rest of the day, so leave home hungry. It is a great place to bring kids along to and although the service can be a little slow on the uptake, it is very friendly and very accommodating. The food is delicious and immaculately presented and I highly recommend it for a morning out with the family.
