Savannah Cafe, Hermanus

Breakfast just outside of Cape Town: Savannah Cafe, Hermanus

We had all good intentions of cereals and toast for breakfast at the holiday house … but the appeal of a great, cooked (by someone else) breakfast out was just too great. So, in our cars we jumped and off into the busy city centre of Hermanus.

Previously, we had popped in at Savannah cafe for quick tea treat of scones, cheese and jam and liked the look of their menu. Guests next to us were indulging in the burgers which looked amazing as well.

But morning time it was and a focus on breakfast is an absolute must.

The guys each opted for the full traditional “Whale of a Breakfast”at R60. Apparently, the sausage served with the breakfast was really great traditional boerewors, perfectly cooked! With the addition of toast, the guys were happily full.

The girls chose:

  • “Baby Whale Breakfast” (smaller version of “Whale of a Breakfast) at R45 and excludes the sausage
  • Crispy “Breakfast Wrap” lined with pesto and filled with scrambled eggs, bacon and cheese (delicious!) and with either chips or mushrooms on the side @ R45
  • 2 pieces of toast with scrambled egg @ R28

I almost went for one of the French Toast options (bacon, tomato and cheese – or – bacon, banana and honey) at R38, but throught the wrap was a good different option to go for this morning.

Savannah cafe, Hermanus also offer a variety of croissants with various fillings (from R22 – R45) as well as a wonderful selection of savoury pancakes ranging from R42 – R48. The usual health breakfast features for R45 and a great addition to a menu is the frittata of 2 eggs mixed with onion, green pepper, mushrooms, baby marrow, spices and cheese served with low GI bread for R48. For an extra R10 add either bacon or feta and peppadews.

For those that don’t indulge in eggs, there is a toasted ciabatta with tomato, goats cheese, rocket and almonds for R38.

Friendly service, fantastic food and with a very well covered / umbrella-ed outside area, one is able to enjoy the gorgeous weather and also let the kids run around stretch their legs a little bit as well.
