Grand Daddy The Café, Cape Town

Breakfast in Cape Town City Centre: Grand Daddy The Café

Friends out from the UK and Sweden and staying at the luxurious Grand Daddy Hotel. So, I joined them for breakfast this fine, overcast Saturday morning.

I have not had eggs benedict for breakfast in Cape Town in a long while, so thought I would indulge … R38 for traditional eggs benedict on English muffin and gypsy ham. R58 to have it with salmon instead. It was delicious, with not too much sauce on the plate and the eggs perfectly cooked. Over the top with the rocket though!

My friends went for the traditional breakfast mixed with options from the cold buffet. The fruit looked amazing and the variety of fruit juices was great. Typical early bird with eggs, grilled tomato, mushroom and toast at R25. Mix it up a bit with boerewors, potato fritter and toast (South African breakfast) at R55. Various omelette fillings, but with a basic starting at R20.

French toast sounded yummy with grilled banana, bacon and maple syrup at R30! But I did not steer away from my favourite this time.

Buffet with breads, muffins, cheese, meats, yoghurt, cereals and various fruits and fruit juices as well as coffee and tea at R85 per person. Throw in the early bird breakfast for a total of R100. Very good value for money.

Service was great and even though it is in the middle of the city centre and on the busy Long Street, the vibe was quiet and relaxed. Definitely will look to go back again!
